Vision Video: In My Side (Modern Horror Version)

You may have noticed this marks the addition of yet another category to Stranger Sights (you bet yer ass I just linked to my own homepage!). I’m really trying to expand my, ahem, vision here. whyyyyy am I like this?… Did you need dad jokes from me today? Idk, but that one’s a freebie. Annnnnyway, on October 17, one of my favorite modern goth bands, Vision Video dropped a brand new music video for a song off their 2021 release Inked in Red (a thoroughly fantastic album, btw). The song is called In My Side, and if you’ve never heard it before, YOU ARE IN FOR A TREAT (she says menacingly, but fr. it’s great. you’ll love it).

I was so amped for this video because not only do I love this song, and love this band – but this is actually a short horror film that was presented by Fangoria. Yes, the Fangoria. And it is SO GREAT. And just remember, if it’s good enough for Fango, it’s good enough for you! I don’t know if that’s true. I don’t even know if you like Fango. I just assume you do, because it would be weird if you didn’t.

This video debuted the day after I saw Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin live score Demons (more on that in a future post), which was a really fun juxtaposition. The video has strong Demons/Night of the Demons/Evil Dead-type vibes. It just felt so right that they happened one right after the other like that.

It’s got a fun story, really bitchin makeup/effects work, and, you know, the song is a banger. In a music video, I feel like that’s probably pretty important.

Anyhoo, if you’ve never heard these folks before, I highly recommend giving them a shot. I’ve got all of their albums so far (as far as I know, anyway) and have been fortunate enough to see them play live (which they do excellently, btw). Sonically I’d say they’ve got a solid 80’s poppy goth-rock sound, but the lyrics are where they truly captured my heart – in general they skew a lot more toward political/social issues. Like, imagine if The Cure had a baby with Crass (best baby ever? probably).

In the interest of me not saying anymore bizarre things, let me just share this beautiful video with you.

Enjoy!
