Review Request Policy

Spread the love

Please read this post in its entirety before sending your request – I’ve probably addressed any questions you might have already.

I currently share across social media including Twitter, Goodreads, The Story Graph, Barnes and Noble (when applicable), and Instagram.

I only accept physical books. No e-books, no PDFs, just plain ol’ books.

ALSO NOTE (AND THIS IS IMPORTANT, HENCE THE CAPS):

Stranger Sights is a labor of love for me. I do not earn any money for my reviews, so I still have to work full time, which does mean that I will not always be able to get to your book/film/etc. immediately, but I do try to be mindful in the way I prioritize. Entertainment is very important to me, and I love sharing my thoughts and opinions on what I consume with others. I am a relatively new blogger, so your support means the world to me. With that being said, I cannot (also will not) be beholden to timelines for reviews. I will do them as I am able. If that doesn’t work for you, please know that I harbor no ill will, but also that I am not the right reviewer for your work.

My Rating System:

Rating: 0.5 out of 5.

I didn’t like it at all, and there were serious issues with either proofreading, editing, formatting, or extremely questionable content without proper warning.

Rating: 1 out of 5.

None of the issues above, but it still didn’t work for me at all.

Rating: 1.5 out of 5.

I didn’t really dig it, but it wasn’t the worst.

Rating: 2 out of 5.

It was like oatmeal – I didn’t like it, but it had moments of okayness.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

Meh.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

I liked it well enough.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

It was pretty good.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I really enjoyed it.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

I loved it. I will recommend it to everyone.

From this moment forward, I will never stop slapping people in the face with this supremely wonderful book or movie while screaming about its wonders. How did you write or otherwise create such a transcendent thing??

I will read just about anything, but my favorite high-level genres are:

  • Fantasy
  • SciFi
  • Horror (of all types)
  • Non-Fiction: History, Feminist Issues, film related, true crime

I know – very non-specific, but I like to keep my options open!

Please note: I will never read anything where rape/intended rape or the Bitter Fat Person is a major plot point. I’m not into it. Both are weird, insulting, and incredibly creepy. I feel like I shouldn’t have to say that because WHY THE FUCK IS ANYBODY WRITING THAT?! But, there you have it.

Do you want to work with me? Here’s what you need to know:

Information to include in your request:

  • Please include something to indicate that you and I are both humans. Maybe a “hello” or a “hi, Angie.”
  • Introducing yourself is appreciated
  • Title and author of the book or equivalent film info
  • Summary of the work
  • Page count or duration
  • Genre
  • Release date
  • Any other information you feel is important – is there something in particular about your work that you’d like me to know?

This information helps me determine whether or not I think your title will be a good fit for me. Either way though, I will always respond to let you know whether or not I will be able to work with you on that particular request.

Requests can be sent to strangersights @ gmail (dot) com

If you do not provide me with the above info, I will not even consider reviewing your work – I need that info for my own organizing/scheduling purposes. #sorrynotsorry

I get a pretty high volume of requests, so I have to do what I can to quickly determine if a book is going to be a good fit for me.

My reviews are 100% honest. I cannot be bought – and even if I could be, you’d have to be crazy rich. This does mean that not all reviews are going to be glowing. If I do not like your work, I apologize in advance, and I promise not to tag you in the review on socials. Just remember these 2 important points:

  • Not everybody’s going to dig on the same stuff, and that’s as it should be.
  • And most importantly, no matter how much something might not gel with me, I’m not going to tear it to shreds. I will simply point out what didn’t work for me and why. I completely understand that creating something from nothing takes a lot of hypothetical blood, and some very real sweat and tears.

I’m interested in seeing what exactly I can do with this blog, so I’d love to host giveaways, do interviews, or even cover reveals for titles or authors that interest me. And if there is some other way that you might be interested in collaborating, I’m open to ideas.

P.S. I feel that it is also important to note that on the off chance that you decide to reach out to me (thank you! I think you’re really special!) and I decline reading/watching and reviewing your work, this is not in any way meant to imply that I am not interested in what you do – it just means that I lack the capacity to do any more reviews than I’m already working on at this time. It’s just me here. I’d love to try to hook up again in the future.
