WiHM: Go Down Hard by Ali Seay

Synopsis:

Go Down Hard asks what if a victimized woman decided to be a silent guardian angel for other women and turn the tables on predatory men? What if she stumbled into the hunting grounds of a cocky serial killer while looking for her own private murder den? What if a confident killer met his match in the form of a jean-clad, whiskey-swigging stranger in an hour glass-shaped package – and she made him want things – things he’s far too superior to want?

When predator meets predator, the only question is: Is the attraction they feel to bed one another… or kill one another?

Meg isn’t expecting to catch Jack red-handed with his most recent victim. Jack isn’t expecting Meg to come busting through his front door while chasing her current prey. Now that each recognizes a fellow killer, what urge will win – kiss or kill?

My Thoughts:

Go Down Hard contains some pretty intense and uncomfortable subjects. As I mentioned up top in the trigger warnings, there’s some pretty fucked up stuff going on here.

This book is intense. It’s violent. It moves at about a mile a minute from the opening sentence all the way up to the ultra-violent conclusion. It’s a short read, but for that I’m grateful. It reminded me a bit of Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer in the way that it was constantly punching me in the face with the intensity of the awful impulses that Jack and Meg are constantly faced with.

Is it weird that in my head all serial killers look like Michael Rooker until I learn otherwise? No, it can’t be weird. He was just so fucking good in that movie. Have you seen it? I’ll have to give it my once-per-decade watch soon and write about it. It’s so punch-you-repeatedly-in-the-face-intense. I know I’m using the word “intense” a lot, but nothing else quite fits the tone I’m trying to describe.

I think this book can be summed up simply enough by quoting Meg,

“You should know something. Women like me might go down…But we go down hard.”

I don’t want to reveal too much, because I fully believe this one is worth going into knowing as little as possible. It’s short, it’s thrilling, and it will have you sitting on the very edge of your seat from start to finish. This one’s gonna go down quickly, but it’s gonna go down hard, I promise. You’ll be thinking about it for a good long time after you reach that final page.
