My First Night Worms Package – January 2020: Miscreations

You might be asking yourself: did I travel back in time? It isn’t January anymore! But this is for Night Worms January 2020! (。_。)

Well, you’d be correct. I’m super slow. Running behind basically all the time.

But let’s talk about this, shall we? At $37.99, if this first box is anything to go by, Night Worms is a hell of a deal. Every month they choose a theme and curate a box based around it. When I saw that January’s theme was “Miscreations,” I knew I needed to get my hands on it. The package included the three books you see in the photo, as well as some stickers, a keychain, some hot chocolate (which I want to say I drank immediately, but in all honesty I put it on my coffee cart and promptly forgot it until right now – but it’s mint chocolate, so now that I remember its existence, I’m gonna fuck that thing up). But as per usual, I digress – I wanted this in my life based on the Lovecraftian nature of the theme. What can I say – I love the cosmic horror of it, but I’m not real wild about H.P.’s rampant xenophobia and racism or his endless need to throw out $40 words like we might otherwise forget he was a formally educated wealthy white boy from New England. So, I’m always down for modern adaptations, I guess is what I’m saying.

The opportunity to get my hands on the Miscreations anthology a full month ahead of anyone else was too much to pass up (but I haven’t had a chance to read it yet – WHYAMILIKETHIS?!).

But anyway, a complete breakdown of what’s in this box:

Miscreations: Gods, Monstrosities, and Other Horrors edited by Doug Murano and Michael Bailey

Oversight by Michael Bailey

Adam’s Ladder: an Anthology of Dark Science Fiction co-edited by Michael Bailey and Darren Speegle

Reverse Mermaid Sticker by Velvet Hand Designs

Creature from the Black Lagoon sticker by Future Monsters

Laser Cut Frankenstein’s Monster Keychain by Skull and Hawk

Mint Hot Chocolate from Moonstruck Chocolate (not in pic – FAIL)

Some publisher swag for Gutted and Brian Kirk’s We Are Monsters (bookmarks) (only Gutted in pic – what am I even doing?)

I didn’t do the recurring subscription option (because I’m a broke-ass, as I feel I’m forever pointing out), but I did pre-order their April pack, since it included a lot of stuff that I’m into. I’m worried that if I keep going to their site, I’m gonna keep buying. I’m sure they’d appreciate it, but my bank account, and stupid debt holders probably wouldn’t so much.

I highly recommend checking them out though if you’re looking for a book box that caters to us horror lovers. They’re by far the best I’ve seen that fits that bill.

    1. They’re definitely worth the price you pay. I did 3 total, but now I have student loan payments to worry about, so I won’t be buying anything ever again, apparently. 🙃
