Hold Fast – Dusty Gannon and the Agonal Gasps

Since their demise, there has been a hole in my soul in the shape of Vision Video (RIP). Well, Dusty Gannon and the Agonal Gasps have begun the work of filling that hole (has the hole thing gone far enough yet?). Agonal Gasps is probably going to appeal to those of you who love post-punk. Specifically early era post-punk.

This is the group’s first single. It is, according to the email blast “…about staying resilient in the fight against authoritarianism and fascism. Blast this on the way to protest against the fascist ICE goons. Blast this when you need some motivation. This one is a call to arms in against a world of apathy.”

As you’ve probably noticed, we’re in the midst of just such a battle. In fact, you’re probably wondering why I’m not posting about that again – I have talking-about-it-fatigue. I’m still doing it over on Threads, but I need to move away from it here. Besides, I cover media, and media is inherently political; I don’t care what a few idiot-cowards at the Grammys have to say about the matter. So, we’re back on this.

And frankly, Hold Fast feels like a good segue back into media. It fits my need to endlessly think about what it’s been like living in a beautiful, thriving city that has suddenly found itself (and its Twin) in the middle of a fascist takeover, but it also gives me a little bit of hope. And three months into this violent occupation by government-sanctioned goon squads, a little hope feels pretty fucking good.

STREAM “HOLD FAST”

I think you should check it out. And while you’re at it, peep that cover image done by Ryan Dunn @dunnhog – that’s good stuff.
