Disclosure:

I received a review copy of Crossroads from the publisher in exchange for review consideration. They give me no money, nor do they in any way influence my thoughts – those are 100% my own for better or worse.

My Thoughts:
You know the short story drill, right?

The Stories:

Bitey Bachman

A failed zombie apocalypse. I left a note on this one. It says simply, “Brian is a d-bag.”

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Bits and Bobs

An awful man is mad because his weird obsession with corpses is forever standing in the way of him getting a job working with corpses.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

Siren

A little girl is forced to move when her parents divorce. She is stuck with her mom at a new lakeside house, but soon she makes a new friend who makes her want to stick around. I adored this one.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Now You See Them

Little Bobby learns firsthand what terrible things live in the dark.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Skin

Amy Cook gets bit by a strange spider. I really loved the social commentary in this one.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

‘S’ Day

A very demanding little boy becomes a martyr.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Barry’s Last Day

Barry is unhappy at home, at work, and just in general. He’s on the brink of retirement and staring down the barrel of a long, disappointing decline into death.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas

Never get your Christmas tree from a cemetery.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Overall Rating:

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Corpsing is a solid collection with a few standouts.

About the Author:

(from the book)
Kayleigh Marie Edwards is a writer of fiction, reviews, articles, and theatre plays. Finding that horror and comedy tend to go hand-in-hand, she exclusively writes in these genres, and enjoys combining them. She believes that there’s no problem in life that can’t be solved with a good laugh, or a good scare.

Kill ’em in the Brain – a zombie sitcom – was her first theatre production, and she has since written family-friendly Halloween shows for a holiday park. She has been published in several horror anthologies, and has been placed in several short fiction competitions across the web.

Kayleigh can be found listing horror movie facts at www.spookyisles.com, and has a page called “Challenge Kayleigh” at www.gingernutsofhorror.com, in which horror fans challenge her to positively review the very ‘worst’ movies that the genres have to offer.

She lives alone in her house of horrors with her cat. And she’s fine with it.
