My Thoughts:

The Stories:
The Second Hand by Kealen Patrick Burke

A boy’s best friend is killed by an impossible monster at the local swimming hole.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

The Governess by Ania Ahlborn

An anxious new mother buys a state of the art baby monitor, but it’s glitching in the most terrifying ways.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Urban Moon by Mercedes M. Yardley

This one is a sort of twisted fairy tale about a young lady and her beloved feathered coat having to survive a horrible trauma.

CW: sexual assault

Rating: 4 out of 5.

A Circle That Ever Returneth by Kevin Lucia

Existential horror in a bottle recycling center.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Bury Me in the Garden by Mike Duran

Good old fashioned Pagan-farming terror. This one might have been my absolute favorites – but I’m a sucker for human sacrifice.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

This is How it Goes by Gemma Files

Exceptional body horror involving duplicates violently bursting forth from their hosts.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Comfortable Gods by Michael Wehunt

Cosmic and grotesque body horror in a rundown motel.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Fly Away, Little Fledgling by Michelle Garza and Melissa Lason

An emotional tale about a young cancer patient and her caregiver.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Forget the Burning Isle by Michael Whitehouse

Scottish solstice festival, killer brightness. This one left me with some questions, but overall I enjoyed it.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Three Lanes Deep by Gemma Amor

Hell is a traffic jam.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
The Switch by Cameron Chaney

This one had major Paperbacks from Hell vibes. A sort of very scary Parent Trap.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

The Red Rose by Caytlyn Brooke

An angry girl resents her “perfect” “best friend’s” “perfect” life. Enough quotation marks for you? I liked the story, but honestly, I’m a little over this trope.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Can We Keep Him by C. W. Briar

A German superstition come to life helping 7 year old serial prankster Penny be a very naughty girl.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Alone in the Dark by J. D. McGregor

A drunk driver tries to outrun a monster on the road.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Overall Rating:

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Overall, Other Voices, Other Tombs is a really solid collection of stories.
