My Thoughts:

This was such an interesting book. It centers around a family of ghost hunters, and one son, Benedict who can’t see ghosts. Except one, but he’s not sure why. Why can he see Emmeline, but not any other ghosts? And why is she bound to him? Is it loyalty or something more sinister? Why can none of his family members see or sense her presence?

I mean, it’s incredibly curious, but it works out well enough for him – he’s got a very deep relationship with her. He even loves her. She’s his best, and kind of even his only friend. But it is really weird, isn’t it, that he can’t see or even sense a single other ghost.

After his mother dies, Benedict is to return to the family home to attend her funeral along with the rest of his family – immediate and extended (they’re all spiritually…capable shall we say, to one degree or another). But Emmeline is certain that returning there will ultimately lead to their ruin.

“I have a bad feeling, if we go into that house, we’ll never get out again.”

And once he arrives, things begin to go south rather quickly. What the absolute crap is going on?! Well, you’ll have to pick up a copy and find out for yourself. And you should – The Midnight Lullaby is quick and super creepy. It’s sort of like a fancier version of a Supernatural episode. Like, if the Winchester Boys were spiritualists instead of “You Know, Saving People, Hunting Things, The Family Business.” But this is also a family business. You know what? Never mind. Please ignore this entire paragraph.
