The Devil’s Delinquents by Sawney Hatton

Disclosure:

I received a review copy of The Devil’s Delinquents from the publisher via BookSirens in exchange for review. They give me no money, nor do they in any way influence my thoughts – those are 100% my own for better or worse.

Synopsis:

Teenage years can be hell.

A trio of high school misfits, in pursuit of their fantasies for success, power and revenge, practice amateurish rituals of devil worship. While their bonds of camaraderie grow stronger, their dark deeds grow more extreme—and more inept—leading them to plan the most depraved of sacrifices, and thrusting themselves into a deadly tragicomedy of errors.

“The Devil’s Delinquents” first appeared in the Noir novella collection MURDER IN MONTAGUE FALLS. This “Extra Dark Edition” includes some previously cut material in addition to bonus content.

Edition:

E-ARC

My Thoughts:

This is a fun, quick read for fans of tales of Satanic Panic stories.

The cast of characters is not exactly surprising – I mean, you’ve got two bullied metalhead dudes who claim willingness to deal with the devil for fame and a goth girl who claims to have an existing relationship with demonic forces – but in the parlance of this particular type of story, they make sense. And I actually appreciate the author’s decision to make the ringleader female. I feel like they are usually only given that role in these types of stories if the group is all female, so props!

The story itself moves along at a good clip, and does have some surprising moments, along with some genuinely tense ones. The conclusion was pretty much what I had hoped for.

About the Author:

Sawney Hatton is an author, editor, and screenwriter. Other incarnations of Sawney have produced marketing videos, attended all-night film festivals, and played the banjo and sousaphone (not at the same time). As of this writing he is still very much alive.

My Rating:

Rating: 3 out of 5.
If you want to buy this book, it looks like Amazon is going to be your only choice at this point. It is only available as an e-book, and I could only locate it there. However, if you do Kindle Unlimited, it looks like you can borrow it there.
