So, in the last Queer Horror post we looked at stuff I had bought, but hadn’t read yet. In this one, we’re going to look at some stuff I have read, and highly recommend. Again, this post will contain affiliate links, so if you see something you like, just click the picture and it will magically transport you to that book with my affiliate link at Bookshop. Let’s get right to it!
Everything Clive Barker has ever written
I know that’s cheating, but he’s really an incredible writer. Here are a few of my favorites:
Flowers for the Sea by Zin E. Rocklyn
Tordotcom puts out some high quality queer literature. Flowers for the Sea is probably one of the best novellas I’ve read in a long time – and I’ve read some pretty damned good ones.
The Worm and His Kings by Hailey Piper
Classic subterranean unknowable horror. I seriously love this little book (not trying to be a jerk here – it’s a novella). I’ve actually already reviewed this one here.
Waif by Samantha Kolesnik
I haven’t even had the chance to write up a review of this one yet, that’s how recently I read it. But, like everything Grindhouse Press puts out, it’s wonderfully fucked up. It’s got body horror, bizarre fetishes, and a queer girl gang.
The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay
I hope you like soul-crushing sadness. Cuz that’s what you’re getting with this book. But I promise you this – it’s really, really good.
Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant
Into the Drowning Deep actually has all kinds of rep going on. It’s also a really fantastic story about the monsters that may be (or may not, but definitely are) hiding in the depths of the Challenger Deep.
Ok, that’s all I have for now. But there is a great big, wide world of queer horror and I highly suggest expanding your horizons!
Also, I’ve linked my running Bookshop list of queer horror below. If I’m missing anything important, feel free to let me know and I’ll see about getting it added. 🙂
Awesome list!
