Graveyard Slaughter by Cullen Bunn and Kevin Watkins

Synopsis (from Goodreads):

Graveyard Slaughter is comic book anthology that embraces the bloody madness and nostalgia of 80s VHS gore. Those passionately curated horror sections of the deep dive video rental stores.

Edition:

Paperback from a Night Worms package

My Thoughts:

Since this is an anthology, there are four stories as well as one wraparound, so I’m going to discuss each of them briefly.

The Stories:
Wraparound

Set in a video store called Video Hell, the wraparound is basically just a series of spooky things happening. I found each visit fun and creepy.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Barbaric Days by Cullen Bunn, with art by Javier Saltares

This one is about what I’m going to call a “fully immersive” arcade game. It’s kinda icky, and loads of fun.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Truth or Dare by Kevin Watkins, with art by Blacky Shepherd

Bloody Mary goes on a rampage. I loooooved the art in this one.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Kill With One Eye Open by Cullen Bunn, with art by Gary Bedell

A super fun campsite slasher with a truly unexpected twist.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Cheating by Kevin Watkins, with art by Adam McLaughlin

A group of kids playing hid and seek in a haunted cemetery learn that there are consequences to not following the rules.
This entry was runner up for my favorite art.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Overall Rating:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I’m just gonna call it 5. It’s close enough. I loved Graveyard Slaughter!

I’m not really sure where you can buy this, but I’m gonna give you the deets anyway so that if you’re so inclined, maybe you can hunt it down!

  1. I’m definitely not a child of the 80s, and I always appreciated horror novels over movies, but…I totally want to read this. I’m a sucker for 80s nostalgia, even though it’s not actually nostalgic to me (if that makes any sense). After poking around a bit, it looks like you can buy this comic right from the Graveyard Slaughter website, so I’ve got that bookmarked 🙂
