Cockblock by C.V. Hunt

Synopsis:

After the daily grind at their jobs all Sonya and Callie want is to enjoy a quiet night out together at a new restaurant. But making it to their reservation is proving to be a challenge. A few men on the street near their destination verbally assault them. And the situation quickly escalates into a nightmare. Once within the safety of the restaurant the two women discover it’s not just the men outside who’ve lost their minds, men everywhere have gone insane. And they believe they’ve found the origin of the mayhem. A radio in the kitchen is playing a hate filled message against women and it’s being delivered by the President. There’s only one way to stop the men from attacking women and logic tells them they need to terminate the chaos at its source.

My Thoughts:

If the trigger warning list didn’t clue you in, I’m going to go ahead and just let you know that Cockblock is not going to be for everybody. But if you like slap-you-in-the-face violence, and you understand that America under 45 was somehow an even more horrible place to be a woman or from any other marginalized group than is the norm, you’re probably going to love it. If you think Trump did anything good at any time, you should probably skip this one (also, seek help).

Cockblock is not a story about how good and helpful men in a patriarchal society are. It’s about how quickly things can go from bad to WHATTHEFUCKINGFUCK really quickly when powerful, entitled men become more powerful and more entitled. This is a world gone absolutely bonkerballs. And what makes it particularly difficult to stomach is that the premise doesn’t seem terribly far-fetched. I mean, we already know about subliminal messaging, shared delusions, the power of mob mentality.

“Is there really a plan for when men decide to rape the world?”

If you enjoy grindhouse films, and aren’t afraid of reading stories that are critical of the patriarchy, I think Cockblock will probably be right up your alley. If you don’t like examinations of problematic and oppressive social systems I’ll assume you’re here by accident.
